How to qualify for a debt consolidation loan

Campus Package Requirements

To ensure the “Start Smart” and “Campus Boost” products are accessible yet secure, students will need the following to register:

1. Personal Identification

  • National ID Card: A clear copy (front and back). For students under 18, a Birth Certificate and a Parent/Guardian as a co-signatory may be required.
  • KRA PIN Certificate: Required for tax compliance on interest earned.
  • Passport-sized Photo: One recent colored photo for the member profile.

2. Student Verification

  • Valid Student ID: A copy of the current ID from a recognized University or College.
  • Admission Letter: (Optional) To verify the expected graduation date, which helps in structuring loan repayment periods.

3. Financial Commitments

  • Registration Fee: A student-discounted non-refundable fee 1,000 KES
  • Minimum Monthly Deposit: A manageable amount to build discipline 1000 KES

4. Digital Setup

  • Registered M-Pesa Number: For flexible deposits and receiving loan disbursements.

Business Membership Requirements

1. Sole Proprietorships (Individual Businesses)

This is for the “hustler” or small business owner who is the sole owner.

  • Certificate of Registration: Copy of the “Business Name” registration.
  • National ID & KRA PIN: Of the proprietor.
  • Passport Photo: One for the proprietor.
  • Business Permit: A valid copy of the County Government Single Business Permit.
  • Financials: Minimum opening deposit and registration fee.

2. Limited Liability Companies (LLCs)

This is for more structured entities like your real estate company.

  • Certificate of Incorporation: To prove the company is a legal entity.
  • CR12 Form: An official confirmation from the Registrar of Companies showing who the directors and shareholders are (must be recent, usually within 6 months).
  • Memorandum & Articles of Association: The “constitution” of the company.
  • KRA PIN of the Company: Distinct from the personal PINs of the directors.
  • Board Resolution: A formal document signed by the directors resolving to join Kikwetu Sacco and nominating the account signatories.
  • IDs & Passport Photos: For all nominated signatories.

3. Partnerships

  • Partnership Deed: The legal agreement showing the roles and shares of each partner.
  • Certificate of Registration: For the partnership name.
  • IDs & PINs: For all partners.
  • Partners’ Resolution: Signed by all partners to authorize the Sacco membership.

Financial requirements

  • Entrance Fee: A one-time non-refundable fee Kshs. 10,000
  • Minimum Share Capital: Kshs. 50,000
  • Monthly Savings/Deposits: Kshs. 20,000 minimum

Kikwetu Mega Top-Up: Requirements for Application

To qualify for this comprehensive loan, a member (Individual or Business) must provide the following:

1. Membership & Savings Status

  • Active Membership: You must have been a member of Kikwetu Sacco for at least 6 months with consecutive monthly savings
  • Multiplier Rule: The loan amount is usually limited to 3 times your total deposits/savings
  • Share Capital: Must be fully paid up according to the Sacco’s minimum threshold.

2. Debt Documentation (For Consolidation)

  • Latest Pay Slips: Usually the last 3 months to confirm net take-home pay (the 1/3 rule must be observed).
  • Certified Bank Statements: The last 6 months to show the flow of funds and existing loan deductions.
  • Loan Statements from Other Institutions: Official letters or statements from the banks or micro-finances you wish to pay off. These must show the Buy-off/Pay-out amount.

3. Security & Guarantees

  • Guarantors: The loan applied should be fully covered by the guarantor’s savings and the loanee savings. Their combined deposits must cover the loan amount.
  • Collateral (For Large Amounts): If the loan is very large (Mega), the Sacco may accept Title Deeds or Logbooks as additional security.
    • Note: Assets used as collateral must be professionally valued and charged at the members cost.

4. Legal & Administrative

  • Duly Filled Loan Application Form: Signed by the applicant and all guarantors.
  • ID Copy: For the applicant and signatories.
  • Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) Report: The Sacco will usually run a check to see your repayment history elsewhere.
